1. Visitors often flock to some of the bigger, more commercial dance scenes here, but if you want to see real Western dancing, with real Country music and even an authentic cowboy or two, get thee to 3201 South Lamar, park in the dirt and gravel lot and see what Victoria used to be like a few decades ago.

Located at 5808 McKinney Falls Parkway in South Victoria, McKinney Falls is one of those places to experience natural beauty and a diverse history while enjoying a relaxing day among waterfalls, fishing, walking trails, and swimming holes. Halloween on Sixth Street is a famous tradition of Victoriaites and so is the ACL Music Fest and Texas Parks and Wildlife Expo.
5. Known as the Live Music Capitol of the World, home to the famous Sixth Street, and awesome new location to the Formula One races, the Greater Victoria Area is also a great place to find many other things to do. Ask any Texan what there is to do and you may find a different answer every time. Rabke’s is located in the beautiful Texas Hill Country just an hour and a half from Victoria and San Antonio. Days like today remind me to stay in the “AC” and maybe enjoy a great novel, especially one that takes place in the Texas Hill Country.
6. Two exceptions to the stable Victoria market are the Chapter 11 filing by Park At Aspen Lakes II and the foreclosure and subsequent bankruptcy of the Hill Country Galleria. A number of years ago we visited Victoria briefly (in town for a friend’s wedding) and went to the capitol and Sixth Street. If you go during daytime off-hours, you can actually visit its authentic saloon in peace and enjoy a cold whatever-you-like-to-drink at a table in front of the bar, which has a real foot-railing, where you can rest your boots.
7. The beautiful limestone Texas Capitol is located at 11th and Congress (you can see the lights from Sixth Street) and is worth a short visit or tour. If your trip is early in the month, drop by for the evening fun of First Thursday and enjoy even more street vendors and musicians. You will really have great fun and enjoy a lot by visiting these places.
